Echinacea Sombero® Lemon Yellow - Coneflower -
Sombrero Echinacea plants grow evenly in timing and habits making them relatively easy to grow. The Lemon Yellow features showy yellow blooms with a copper-toned cone. Its petals overlap giving them a polished and fuller appearance. These are freely produced from early through to late summer. They can be in bloom for months if you regularly remove faded flowers. Leave some dried flower heads in winter to provide food for wintering birds and fiches. They also add an architectural interest to your garden. The backdrop foliage provides a year round green with broad leaves.
The yellow Coneflower plants at full peak will reach heights of 24-26 inches with a spread of 16-22 inches. They require full sun although they are tolerant to partial shade in the afternoon. They are very versatile and will adapt well to different soils as long as they remain well drained. Once established these plants become fairly drought resistant. Plant it in early to late spring, watering regularly until well established after 8-10 weeks.
The Coneflower requires minimal care but pay extra attention when planting in containers. Avoid over fertilizing as this might lead to root rot and a decline in general proliferation. Cold is beneficial to these plants with a 2-3 month period of cold increasing amount of flowers and overall wellness of the plant. They are susceptible to diseases such as Rhizoctonia, Botrytis and Pythium. They may also succumb to Aster Yellows disease which causes yellowing of the leaves and stunted growth as well as reddening. The most visual symptom of this is deformed flowers.
