Hydrangea bushes are flowering shrubs that bloom best in morning sun with afternoon shade. Don't expect hydrangea plants to do well planted in heavy shade. The Pee Gee Hydrangea variety is one of the few hydrangea bushes hardy enough to grow in full sun. Hydrangea macrophylla such as the Nikko Blue, Mars and Paris produce a large rounded hydrangea flower and are also known as Mophead or French Hydrangeas. White hydrangeas will not change bloom color. However, the soil pH will cause other hydrangea shrubs to bloom pink or can be altered to change the bloom color to blue.
