Paeonia lactiflora 'Kansas'

Double Imperial Red flowers will delight your garden mid to late spring, which is late April to June.  Clip the elegant double red flowers to create stunning bouquets. Whiile the Kansas Peony performs best in full sun, it can grow in dappled sun to part shade although the flowering will be somewhat limited. This herbaceous perennials flowers on study, erect stems with a backdrop of glossy dark green foliage. 

Plant this container grown plant at or near ground level. Siting no more than 1 inch below ground level. One of the most common reasons for peonies to not grow well is they are planted too deeply. Water weekly throughout the growing season or as needed to keep moisture in the roots. More frequent watering may be needed for extreme heat periods and peonies growing in containers.

Grows 2 to 3 feet tall with a spread of up to 30 inches.

Apply a timed release fertilizer or garden compost in spring to feed it through blooming. Surround base with a 1 to 2 inch layer of mulch for winter protection.
