Buttered Rum Foamy Bells -

This variety of foamy bells is a showy herbaceous perennial plant. It is an intergeneric hybrid that is more compact and exquisite than its parent plant. The Buttered Rum Heucherella grows in compact clusters of large copper-caramel, maple-shaped leaves and can grow up to 5-8 inches tall.

The minuscule, sometimes beige, star-shaped flowers bloom in late spring to mid-summer. They grow on thin, dark stems that rise above the foliage up to 15-20 inches high. In fall, the foliage fades to stunning rosy red.

Heucherella Buttered Rum care is average with medium water requirements. It requires well-drained soils with full sun when grown in northern areas and part shade in the south. If the soil dries out, there is general foliage decline and discoloration as well as scorching. When grown in the north, where there are full sun requirements, consistent watering is important.

In cold winter climates, mulching is beneficial to prevent root heaving when the ground freezes over. The buttered Rum poses no serious problems. There have been no significant insect or disease issues apart from the frost heaving of its roots in unstable temperatures.

The Buttered Rum, like the Heucherella Sweet Tea is grown for its visually striking foliage. It makes an excellent edger along pathways, and patio or deck flower plant. It can also be planted as a mass ground cover plant in rock gardens, woodland gardens and even as a border plant. For smaller spaces the trim trailers spill exquisitely out of hanging baskets or other containers.

Remove the old stems with faded flowers to tidy it up and for optimal blooming. It can also be divided every 4 years preferably in early spring. It is also important to remove the old woody sections of the crown to increase the overall aesthetic value of the plant.

This hardy cultivar attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Plant it alongside other garden plants with striking colors and large flowers for texture and variety.
