Hydrangea Penny Mac is a great introduction by Penny McHenry, the founder of the American Hydrangea Society. A Hydrangea macrophylla or big leaf hydrangea, this smaller flowering shrub matures within the 4 to 5-foot height range, but can be kept pruned for smaller spaces. The Penny Mac Hydrangea is a faster-growing hydrangea bush that is also disease resistant, ensuring many years of growth and flowers.

Creating Your Desired Bloom Color:

  • For Blue Blooms: A pH of 5.2 to 5.5 is needed. Apply a solution of Β½ oz (1 Tbsp) aluminum sulfate per gallon of water to plants that are at least 2-3 years old throughout the growing season. Water well before applying the solution and use a low phosphorus fertilizer (ratio of 25/5/30). Avoid bone meal.

  • Natural Method: Apply organic matter such as coffee grounds, fruit/vegetable peels, and grass clippings to encourage blue blooms.

Shipping Information

Orders containing only hard goods generally ship right away
as the inventory allows. Those items ship year-round and generally within one
week.

When ordering plants during fall or spring shipping, we will
set your order for theΒ next available shipping week appropriate for your
location. April and May are our busiest months, and sometimes shipping delays
happen. Plants may be processed later than scheduled or the shipping department may get behind. This is not the norm, but it does sometimes happen. Please bear with us if this happens.

Our bare-root (field-grown) trees and shrubs typically arrive at the facility for shipping in November, December, and January (for fall shipping) and in February, March, April, and May (for spring shipping).
