Blackberries

All blackberry and raspberry plants are self-fertile and will have good fruit production on their own. However, if a second variety is planted nearby, then they will have heavier fruit production. Upright blackberry and raspberry plants should be planted 3 to 5 feet apart in full sun. Plant in soil with a pH level of 6.0 to 6.5 with the crown (where the root system begins) no more than 1/2 inch below the ground's surface. Raspberry and blackberry plants generally begin producing fruit in 2 to 3 years.

Typical fruit yields is 2 to 4 quarts per plant.

Apache Blackberry Thornless sweet blackberry (New Patent) This newly released thorn less Apache Blackberry from Arkansas produces larger fruit and higher yields than any of the other previously released Arkansas thorn less erect blackberry cultivars.

Arapaho Blackberry or Rubus ulmifrolius comes in two popular varieties. Arapaho Blackberries do not need a trellis, and have an excellent sweet flavor. Arapaho Blackberry is a new release from the University of Arkansas.

The Ouachita (wash-uh-taw) Blackberry is our newest large, sweet thorn less blackberry bred by the University of Arkansas. It has excellent flavor and is very prolific. The Ouachita Blackberry has very upright and erect canes.

Triple Crown Blackberry is the newest thorn less blackberry. When we saw the size of these Triple Crown Blackberries we flipped. The Triple Crown Blackberry is named for its three crowning attributes—flavor, productivity and vigor.
