Fast Growing Dappled Nishiki Willow Shrubs

Willow Nishiki Dappled Shrubs, Salix integra Hakuro Nishiki, are extremely fast growing shrubs for your landscape. Plant the Nishiki Willow to create privacy in your yard within only a few years.

The Nishiki Dappled Willow is one of our best show stopping flowering shrubs for year round gardens. The show begins in spring for this Flowering Shrub with yellow catkins, followed by new foliage growth appearing green and creamy white with pink overtones, eventually turning salmon pink by summer. Then this willow shrub changes in  fall with leaves turning yellow and winter branches again turning a brilliant red. The Nishiki Willow doesn't stop there! It is a fast growing shrub that can be planted for plant hedges, privacy screens, windbreaks, or to line a road or driveway.  You can expect this shrub to mature around 15 feet tall and 15 feet wide in approximately 3 to 4 years.

This unusually fast growing shrub is easy to plant and easy to grow. The Nishiki willow, if pruned can be maintained with a great shape at 10 to 12 feet.

Prune in late winter just before the plants begin to leaf out. This willow plant thrives under canopy trees both evergreen and deciduous. Its traditional use is beside streams and water features in Oriental gardens where, like most willows, it is tolerant of wet soils and seepage, but is also drought tolerant once established.

We first learned of this beautiful flowering shrub garden plant from our grower of our tree formed varieties of Rose of Sharon. He is always coming to us with new plants to offer and this one is sure to be a winner among our Greenwood family. The Nishiki willow can be planted as a specimen plant, however they are especially elegant lining a walk, flanking an entryway or used in groupings planted 8 feet apart.
