Aronia arbutiflolia | Native Red Chokeberry Bushes

Red Chokeberry is a multi-stemmed flowering shrub that is a native to Eastern North America. At home in both moist soil and dry thicket areas, the aronia provides brilliant crimson red fall foliage colors with mixes of orange in more shade gardens.

Growing in the 6 to 10 foot tall range with a spread of 3 to 5 feet wide, red chokeberry bushes spread by suckering. They are quick to establish and can naturalize areas quite quickly. A good choice for mass plantings, woodland gardens, moist to wet areas such as streambanks and rain gardens.

White flowers begin in early May and will often last about a week with red berries maturing from September to December. The red fruits are primarily for birds and other wildlife, but are sometimes used to make jams and jellies.

Plant red chokeberry in full sun to part shade. Remove suckers to prevent spreading.

This red chokeberry bush is also available wholesale to nurseries, landscapers and contractors.
