Pin Oak Trees -

Quercus palustris or Pin Oaks are probably the most widely used native oaks.

Most widely planted oak tree for landscaping as they are one of the fastest growing oaks usually attaining 12 to 15 feet of height over a 5 to 7 year period. This oak variety can also be planted in a wetland environment.

The mature Pin Oak tree is distinctive from a distance with its ascending upper branches, horizontal middle branches, and drooping lower branches. Quercus palustris grows in wet, often poorly drained soils of bottomlands and swamps.

The strong, close-grained woods warps and checks badly in drying so it has limited uses. Various wildlife, including wood ducks, wild turkey, feed on the acorns.

Pin oak trees have moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils.
