Oakleaf Hydrangea bushes grow as understory shrubs offering beautiful large leathery oak leaf shaped leaves that, in fall, will turn purple to bronze to red. This beautiful flowering shrub offers exfoliating cinnamon colored bark. An interesting hydrangea bush that provides winter interest for any landscape.
Hydrangea quercifolia and Pee Gee Hydrangeas are the only hydrangea flowering shrub varieties that produce cone shaped flower clusters. In summer, large white cone shaped flowers turn pink shades over fall finally fading to brown.
The Oakleaf Hydrangea is at home in any landscape setting. Whether you have a cottage garden, formal or simple landscape with all your favorite plants, this old fashioned style plant will be very much at home.
Plant in well drained soil that is slightly acidic and high in organic matter.
Prune your Oakleaf hydrangea bushes in summer before August. This hydrangea blooms on old wood. Fertilize with a slow release balanced blend up to two times before August. A North American hydrangea native to the Southeastern United States.
