Description

The Kousa Dogwood is a flowering tree that makes a welcomed late spring show of beautiful white blossoms over its dark green foliage.

Cornus kousa with its brilliant fall foliage and red fruits is sure to become your favorite flowering trees. Where the white flowering dogwood grows in more shaded areas, this one prefers full to partial sun with a distinctive vase shape. Plant as a specimen, plant near a sunny patio, or in groupings. Kousa Dogwoods bloom later in spring with a softer petal flower than the regular white flowering dogwood.

Due to the plants disease resistance, this beautiful dogwood is becoming the best replacement for the white dogwood. The Kousa has seasonal interest all year long. Beautiful showy white blooms in late spring and in fall leaves turn hues of maroon purple and scarlet, plus the large edible bright red berries supplies food for all sorts of wildlife.

Kousa Dogwood Flowering Tree has low water requirements and displays a moderate tolerance for salt and alkali soils. This oriental flowering dogwood is perfect for Zen Gardens and Japanese Garden settings.

One of the great rewards in growing the Kousa dogwood is its bountiful harvest of bright red edible fruit. Some folks have been known to use the fruit in making an unusual flavored but great tasting wine.

Planted best in groupings with spacing of 10 to 20 feet apart.
