Sweet Tea Heucherella -
The Sweet Tea is one of the most vibrant Heucherella’s. Its foliage is a striking orange with huge bursts of amber-orange and cinnamon-brown star patterns. This outstanding semi-evergreen perennial plant (in milder climates) generates big stacks of deeply-lobed leaves that change color according to the season. The leaves lighten in fall and darken in summer for contrasting variety. Its small white flowers appear in radiant sprays during late spring.
The perennial sweet tea is an semi-evergreen heucherella that tolerates humid summers and mild winters. It does exceptionally well in full sun and partial shade. Optimal soils are normal or sandy soils on broad spectrum ph. It grows to a height of 20-27 inches and spreads up to 18-23 inches.
While the Sweet Tea requires little care, it is one of the more dramatic cultivars. It requires weekly watering and in normal weather and more, where there is extreme heat. You should also provide part shade for extreme hot areas and particularly hot summers.
When planting, provide enriched and well-drained soils, being careful not to bury the crown. Water deeply and regularly in the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Feed the plant throughout the growing season reducing gradually as the plant is established. You may remove old foliage in early spring by removing old leaves.
If you are caught in between the benefits of planting a coral bell vs a foamy bell, the Sweet Tea foamy bells is a perfect blend producing an intergeneric breed. You can combine this vivid Heucherella with blue, gold, and yellow hosta and a variety of brightly colored cultivars for a dramatic garden. Use it as a border plant, garden edging, mass floor panting, or as an addition to your woodland garden. The deer and rabbit-resistant plant also makes a perfect gift when planted in a pot.
