Description
Fiddle Leaf Fig | Ficus Lyrata
The Fiddle-leaf fig is in the mulberry tree and fig tree family of Moraceae. This large leafed tree is native to the West African lowland tropical rainforest regions of Cameroon and Sierra Leone. In its native setting, this tropical landscape tree grows as tall as 45 to 50 feet and produces fruit.
Outside the native habitat of the Fiddle Leaf Fig, it is commonly grown as an easy to grow indoor houseplant where it can still grow into the 10 feet tall range but does not fruit. The name Fiddle Leaf comes from the large unusual semi-oval shaped, leathery textured leaves resembling a lyre or fiddle. Only hardy down to 50 degrees F, but can be temporarily placed outdoors during the warm/hot summer months.
Indoors grow this houseplant in bright indirect light where temperatures are consistently between 65 and 75 degrees F. Plant in well draining soil ranging with a pH of 5.5 to 7.0.
Tip for growing Fiddle Leaf Fig indoors - don't move the plant to another location once it is thriving in a space.
Please note: **Toxic to cats and dogs**
