Key Features:

  • Evergreen Foliage: Retains its rich, green leaves throughout the year, with a lovely purple hue in colder weather.
  • Versatile Growth Forms: Can be used as a trailing ground cover, small mounding shrub, or climbing vine.
  • Height and Spread: Typically grows 6 to 9 inches tall and spreads by rooting stems, creating a dense mat.

Ideal Uses for Purple Wintercreeper:

  • Ground Cover: Thrives in sunny or shady areas, providing a dense, low-maintenance carpet.
  • Edging: Effective as an edger along paths or sidewalks, giving a clean, defined look.
  • Erosion Control: Ideal for slopes and hillsides, where it helps prevent soil erosion with its strong root system.
  • Foundation Planting: A great foundation plant that adds texture and color to your landscape.
  • Climbing: Acts as an ivy-like climbing vine for covering walls, chimneys, trellises, or fences, adding vertical interest to your garden.
  • Lawn Substitute: An excellent low-maintenance alternative to traditional grass lawns, reducing the need for mowing, watering, and fertilizing.

Planting and Care Guide for Purple Wintercreeper:

  • Plant Spacing: For optimal coverage, space Purple Wintercreeper plants approximately 18 inches apart. 100 plants can cover up to 225 square feet.
  • Soil Requirements: Adaptable to a variety of soil types but prefers well-drained soil.
  • Sunlight: Grows well in both full sun and partial shade.
  • Watering: Water regularly as needed until established. Once mature, Purple Wintercreeper is drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering.
  • Fertilizing: A balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring will promote healthy growth.
  • Pruning: Prune as needed to maintain desired shape and control spread, especially if used as a climbing vine.

Why Choose Purple Wintercreeper?

  • Low Maintenance: Requires minimal care once established.
  • Pest Resistant: Relatively free from pests and diseases.

Shipping Information

Orders containing only hard goods generally ship right away
as the inventory allows. Those items ship year-round and generally within one
week.

When ordering plants during fall or spring shipping, we will
set your order for the next available shipping week appropriate for your
location. April and May are our busiest months, and sometimes shipping delays
happen. Plants may be processed later than scheduled or the shipping department may get behind. This is not the norm, but it does sometimes happen. Please bear with us if this happens.

Our bare-root (field-grown) trees and shrubs typically arrive at the facility for shipping in November, December, and January (for fall shipping) and in February, March, April, and May (for spring shipping).

An example of month-by-month shipping would be as follows, as plants are available:

January - zones 9 - 10

February - zones 8 - 10

March - zones 7 - 10

April - zones 6 - 10

May - zones 5 - 9

June - zones 3 - 8

July - zones 3 - 7

August - zones 4 - 7

September - zones 5 - 8

October - zones 5 (some areas) - 9

November - zones 6 (some areas) - 10

December - zones 8 - 10
