Description

Bath’s Pink Dianthus (Dianthus gratianopolitanus β€˜Bath’s Pink’) – Evergreen, Fragrant Color for Sunny Borders & Rock Gardens
Bath’s Pink Dianthus is a resilient evergreen groundcover that brings soft, fragrant pink blooms and blue‑green foliage to sunny garden spaces. Its mat‑forming habit makes it an excellent low‑maintenance alternative to small lawn areas, and its ability to thrive in heat, humidity, and drought sets it apart from many other dianthus varieties. From May through July, it produces waves of sweetly scented flowers, with even more blooms encouraged through regular deadheading.

Key Features

  • Drought tolerant and ideal for xeriscape or low‑water gardens
  • Heat and humidity resistant, performing well in challenging climates
  • Fragrant soft pink blooms from late spring into summer
  • Evergreen blue‑green foliage for year‑round appeal
  • Compact, mat‑forming habit under 1 foot tall
  • Continued blooming with regular deadheading

What Bath’s Pink Dianthus Solves

It provides a colorful, low‑maintenance groundcover for sunny areas where turf struggles, adds fragrance and texture to borders, and brings long‑lasting bloom to rock gardens and containers.

Description

Bath’s Pink Dianthus forms a dense, evergreen mat of blue‑green foliage that stays attractive throughout the year. In late spring, it bursts into fragrant pink blooms that continue into summer with proper care. Its compact size and spreading habit make it ideal for edging walkways, filling small lawn‑replacement areas, or adding soft color to rock gardens. Highly tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought once established, it’s a dependable performer in sunny landscapes.

Planting & Care

  • Sun: Full sun for best flowering and foliage color
  • Soil: Well‑drained soil to prevent crown rot
  • Water: Minimal watering; keep soil lightly moist during establishment
  • Spacing: Reaches 10–12 inches wide
  • Maintenance: Deadhead spent blooms to extend flowering; trim lightly to maintain shape

Seasonal Notes

  • Evergreen foliage provides structure through winter
  • Blooms from May to July, with extended flowering through deadheading
  • Thrives in hot, dry conditions once established

Ideal Uses

  • Small lawn alternatives
  • Containers and patio planters
  • Rock gardens and gravel beds
  • Edging along sunny walkways and borders
