As with other fruiting trees, annual pruning will keep your Prairie Red Plum producing its red to yellow fruit (about 1.5 to 2 inches).

The Prairie Red Plum (Prunus Americanana) is adaptable to most soil types, but grows best in silty loamy soils. Keep your pH in the 5.5 to 7.5 range for best growth. This American Plum tree grows approximately 15 feet tall with a 15 foot wide spread. Spring flowers become small fruits that are sweet and commonly used in jellies, desserts and more. Also, known for being grown for food for wildlife and creating thickets for protection of small animals.
