Henry's Garnet Sweetspire - 

More commonly called the Virginia sweetspire, the Itea virginica is an erect, rounded, broad-spreading, native deciduous shrub. It has arching branches that typically grow 3-4'  tall with a similar spread. It features fragrant, tiny white flowers borne in cylindrical, drooping racemes which cover the shrub and bloom in late spring to early summer.  The oval, dark green leaves turn varying shades of red, orange and gold in autumn! It’s a remarkable long period of fall color, with leaves often persisting on the plants until early winter.

The henry's garnet sweetspire deer plant thrives in dappled sunlight under the canopy of larger trees and in natural woodland settings. Its Brilliant red-purple fall foliage color lasts into winter making it standout in the landscape as the slender clusters of fragrant white flowers add to the multi-seasonal show

Henry’s Garnet’ Virginia sweetspire is a very dependable, showy plant. It is an arching, 3- to 5-foot tall shrub that holds its leaves well into fall, allowing the maroon, yellow, and orange tones to develop and reveal themselves over time. Virginia sweetspire also produce an early-summer show, featuring slender, drooping racemes of white flowers that attract all sorts of pollinating insects. it’s absolutely a good choice for slopes, low spots or pond/stream margins and mass plantings.

There is nothing to worry about Henry's Garnet care. It is truly an outstanding selection. Pruning time is in summer after flowering. The flower clusters are twice as long as the original species, and they arch and cascade above the foliage beautifully. Grow 'Henry's Garnet' in moist to average soil in full sun or light shade. Mature plants grow to 6 feet tall.
