Sicilian Sunshine Bay Laurel is an easy to grow plant that will provide you with wonderfully fragrant Laurus nobilis.

The Sicilian Golden Bay Laurel emerges with bright gold foliage that will brighten your windowsill or summer garden. Your beautiful bay leaves will add flavor to soups, stews and many other dishes.

This Mediterranean native plant will not tolerate cold temperatures, although the Sicilian Sunshine Bay Laurel adapts to being grown indoors.  Bay Laurel plants are drought tolerant once established in the landscape. Plant in well drained soil. Prune your bay laurel in spring just as new growth begins though it is not necessary. In spring, apply a fertilizer blend specifically for woody plants for this slow growing plant.

Growing your Bay Laurel indoors: Select a well-drained container 10 to 14 inches in diameter and pot with fresh potting soil. Move to a very brightly lit area - direct sunlight is best. In winter keep within 55 to 65 degrees. Excessive heat can cause stress and rapid drying while cold temperatures (prolonged periods below 45 degrees) can cause damage. Move your bay laurel outdoors in summer, if possible: sunlight and fresh air encourage growth.

Requires full sun (6+ hours a day). Grows approximately 6 to 10 feet outdoors in zones 8 to 10 or 1 to 6 feet tall indoors. Scale is sometimes a problem in warm climates.

Water when soil becomes dry. Do not over water. Bay Laurel roots cannot withstand soggy soil. Dropping and drooping leaves are a s sign of drought stress. Soft or blackened foliage often indicates root rot.

Prune as needed to maintain size and shape. Apply a balanced fertilizer once monthly from the time new growth begins until late summer. Bring back indoors before evening temperatures dip to the 40's.
