Hellebore Red Lady | Lenten Rose

Red Lady Helleborus spring blooms are striking from deep pink to deep red shades. This lenten rose was named the 2005 Perennial Plant of the Year.

The thick clumps of leathery evergreen leaves of the Red Lady Lenten Rose make a beautiful backdrop for the cup shaped single red blooms.

The spring blooming Hellebore is easy to grow. Hellebores prefer light shade to shaded areas making excellent additions to shaded woodland gardens. The Helleborus Lady Series Lenten Rose plants mature in the 12 to 18 inch range for height and width. Deer and rabbit resistant plants probably due to the leaves, stems and roots being poisonous. Hybrid winter roses are harmful if eaten, also a skin irritant.

Helleborus x hybridus LS Red Lady is part of the Lady Series developed by Gisela Schmiemann of Cologne, Germany. Hellebores prefer to remain in the same location for many years. Prune old leaves to ground in late winter to best enjoy the blooms. After blooming, cut flower stems back to encourage more foliage growth of the hybrid winter roses

I have a complaint that it is impossible to see what the Helleborus blooms look like in a few of your photos. I would also be interested in some of the varieties where the blooms appear 'freckled' or 'speckled' with contrasting colors, especially greenish ones. I love Helleborus and would like to try growing them. The only thing that could make them better is fragrance.
