Black Beauty Colocasia

Commonly called Elephant Ears, Colocasia Black Beauty produces large (up to 2 feet) leaves that start out as bright green aging to deep purple to black with green veins.

A tropical plant for full sun to part shade, the Black Beauty grows up to 4 feet tall and spreads up to 4 feet wide. Hardy in zones 8 to 10, this black leafed colocasia can be grown in containers placed outdoors during the summer months and over wintered inside. Or, if planted in the ground, can be dug up after they die back from fall frost, covered with peat and held inside where tubers or root system will not dry out and replanted the following late spring to early summer. As with other dark leafed elephant ears, the Black Beauty will not thrive as much once temperatures pass 90 degrees F.
