Blue Diddley Vitex - Dwarf Blue Flowering Shrub -
The vitex agnus-cactus, also known as the chastetree, is a deer resistant and drought resistant dwarf vitex tree ideal for landscaping, or as a border plant. For a long time, it was thought to have aphrodisiac properties, and ladies used its stems and leaves in their beddings when their men were in war to “cool the heat of lust.”
It flowers throughout the summer months, producing waves of deep blue flowers. It is a well-branched dwarf vitex tree that attracts pollinators such as bees. It is a pest and disease resistant shrub that can also be grown into small trees in the south. It is tolerant to a wide range of soils and growing conditions but thrives in well sunny and well-drained soils.
The blue diddley vitex is quite easy to maintain and looks good in a mixed border or perennial garden. Removing the withering flowers and the seed heads promotes wave after wave of new flowers all though the summer, and well into fall. In the coldest ranges, zone 5-6, the dwarf vitex tree acts as a perennial plant, dying back to the ground then regrowing and flowering during the summer. Grows anywhere from 36 to 72 inches tall. Space plants 3 to 6 feet apart.
If you want to add some variety to your garden and are looking for a chaste tree for sale, this is just perfect.
