Best Houseplants To De-Stress Your Home And Purify The Air

Getting Everything In Proper Balance

The right kind of plants in your home can change its whole character, making it more refreshing, and more peaceful. Still, some plants are going to be better than others. For example, cacti have a stark beauty to them. They are easy to maintain, and theyโ€™re very sharp. But some of the most beautiful flowers come from a cactus, and they can be a great window ornament.

In some homes, in some communities, cactus dรฉcor is โ€œinโ€. If youโ€™ve ever been to Phoenix, Arizona, youโ€™re going to see a lot of cacti in yards and windows. There are a few reasons for this. On the one hand, cacti grow naturally in Arizona. On the other, these plants have a harmony with local decorative motifs of the region.

Other choices will have a similar effect in different areas. For example, if youโ€™re in a region thatโ€™s high in moisture, plants that would only grow in the house can also grow outside. However, because indoor plants can be more carefully managed, even cold or arid climates can host tropical foliage.

For example, if youโ€™re from the frozen wasteland of Wyoming, you might plant a vine and mount it around the corners of a room to give it that tropical โ€œvibeโ€. If youโ€™re in a small home that doesnโ€™t have a lot of space, you may put a bonsai tree on a coffee table. It all depends on your proclivities.

Plants You Can Eat

If you really want to freshen things up, thereโ€™s little better than a fine lemon mint plant. These smell citrusy, but thereโ€™s a minty quality to the effluvia they produce as well. Also, you can use lemon mint in varying culinary pursuits depending on what you want. For example, lemon mint leaves go great in a Mojito! If youโ€™re thinking harmony, imagine plucking a leaf to make a drink for guests.

Not only does this de-stress you and harmonize the dรฉcor of your home, it makes you happy as wellโ€”you really look like youโ€™ve got things together when you can pluck a leaf from a plant youโ€™ve grown in your house and put it in your guestโ€™s drink.

Part of reducing stress involves giving yourself reasons to be happy. Itโ€™s hard to be stressful when youโ€™re enjoying yourself, and when youโ€™ve got foliage inside your home which you carefully husband, and can make direct use of, that is pretty enjoyable.

You can even grow vegetables inside your house if you like. You can put wheatgrass, peppers, small tomatoes, and other similar vegetables in a planter maintained in the kitchen and harvested sporadically throughout the year.

Best Practices And Additional Plants

Another great plant for harmony and stress reduction is bamboo. Bamboo grows easily, it is edible, it grows fast, it looks nice, it feels tropical, and itโ€™s pretty inexpensive. You can buy plants that are already mature, or grow them from your own shoots, depending on what suits you best.

There are some best practices involving interior design tactics for plants. As an example, the way you maintain them will have a lot to do with how well they flourish. Still, there is no one-size-fits all for plants. You can over and underwater them, depending on what kind of plants youโ€™re dealing with.

Additional indoor plants that can be exceptionally calming include aloe vera, english ivy, rubber tree, philodendron, spider plants, and peace lilies. When you get right down to it, that which is most peaceful to you will differ from others. Some people prefer red, some prefer violet, some prefer green.

Coloration will have an effect on people depending on who they are and where they come from. Blue is generally going to be a tranquil color. However, it isnโ€™t alwaysโ€”because sometimes people have negative emotions tied up with certain colors. So though there are generalized psychological responses to color, itโ€™s going to differ per household.

Getting The Balance Right

Know what affects you and what doesnโ€™t. Also, know what sort of responsibility you can handle. Some plants will require more TLC than others, and if youโ€™re not up to the task, then when they wither, this will be decidedly stressfulโ€”or at the very least disappointing.

However, there is little more harmonious or enjoyable than putting the right plants in the right place, and keeping them healthy. So consider your home, consider what you like, consider whatโ€™s available to you, and what youโ€™re willing to do. You may be surprised at the potential out there for harmony in your home through indoor plants.
