Peach Blossom Astilbe - False Spirea -
Commonly referred to as the Japanese astilbe, this blossom features spires of delicate quills of peach blooms with a touch of pink. The peach astilbe is characterized by early blooming and glossy green leaves with a red tint. The flowers are produced in dense, conical clusters.
This false spirea will grow in large masses that have intense color. It requires full shade or filtered sun for prolific blooming. For optimum growth plant it in fertile, neutral soils.
Peach Blossom Astilbe care is relatively easy requiring only frequent watering to keep the soils moistened. Dry soils will lead to rapid death, leaves will develop brown crispy margins and fall off. Plants should never be allowed to turn brown as this is irreversible and renders them unsaleable. Use a shade cloth to cover the plants and reduce chances of drying out.
Fertilize in late spring just before blooming and leave old foliage on the plant until spring to protect it from damage during winter. Should the crown rise above ground level in spring, gently press it back in and apply a generous amount of organic mulch around it.
Astilbe is particularly sensitive to high salts which may lead to damaged roots and scorched plants. Using a broad spectrum fungicide during transplanting may help prevent root and crown diseases.
This showy plant grows up to 24 inches tall and spreads up to 15-18 inches wide. Grow it alongside Azaleas, Hostas and Dicentra Bleeding Heart. The flowers can be used for cutting or as visually stunning garden plants. They attract bees and hummingbirds, but are deer and rabbit resistant.
Use it as border plant or plant it in a pot. Pink Astilbe is a stunning addition to an eclectic or plant it under trees in a woodland shade garden. It is susceptible to powdery mildew and leaf spot.
Peach Blossom Astilbe is grown as a one gallon container plant. Orders shipping to AZ or CA may be bare rooted before being prepped for shipping.
