Swamp Milkweed is an excellent choice as a food source for the larval stage of the Monarch butterflies. As its name implies, the Swamp Milkweed oozes a milky sap when stems are cut. The sap is toxic and should not be grown around farm animals. Plant in low areas, moist soil and wet or boggy soils.
