Buddleia Honeycomb is ever blooming with fragrant orange-eyed deep yellow flowers. Buddleia Honeycomb reaches 10 feet in height with gray-green foliage and is a deciduous shrub or semi-evergreen in warmer climates. Buddleia Honeycomb's branches arch and have narrow cone-shaped bunches of yellow flowers on the tips of the branches. Buddleia Honeycomb's flowers attract butterflies that feed on the highly scented nectar occurring in late summer or early fall. It is recommended that this Buddleia Honeycomb be pruned in late winter to encourage shoots coming from the bottom of the plant. The Buddleia Honeycomb canes are usually stronger and produce larger flower heads.
Buddleia Honeycomb is a new introduction from Holland. Buddleia Honeycomb is native to western Central China. Buddleia Honeycomb performs great in sunny, hot sites and it can definitely bring a little sunshine into any garden! Tip: Cut faded flowers off a butterfly bush regularly to keep it blooming throughout the summer.
Our Buddleia Honeycomb butterfly bushes are shipped in 4 inch containers. They are well rooted, trimmed once or twice, and most will bloom this summer! By next July, they should be 3 - 4 feet high and attract butterflies (and hummingbirds) like a magnet. Buddleia Honeycomb Butterfly bushes are hardy in Zones 5 - 9. If you live in a colder zone, the tops in your butterfly bushes will likely die back over the winter. Even so, they will come back the next growing season bigger and better then before. Butterfly bushes prefer full sun (they must receive eight or more hours of sun a day to thrive). Each order recevies 3 plants. Buy 2 or more and save money.
Buddleias can be planted in full/partial sun with 6 to 8 foot spacing. They generally look their best in groupings of 3 to 5 plants. Alkaline soil (pH 6.5 to 7.0) is usually preferred. Fertilize in spring/summer with a slow release fertilizer. Deadheading them will keep the plants blooming longer during the season. Buddleias can be cut back nearly to the ground in winter. As they age, you may find yourself with more of a shrub that can be merely pruned in winter. One of the most common problems that buddleias experience is spider mites, which can be handled with regular (monthly) spraying of a miticide. Check for spider mites by taking a piece of plain white paper and placing it under several of the branches/leaves, tap the higher branches. If you see tiny red/rust colored spots on the paper, the plant is infected.
