The Hidcote Lavender is one of the most popular of the English Lavenders. Tolerating humid areas better than most of the other lavender plants, the Hidcote lends its blooms for distillation providing one of the purest lavender scents.
The Provence and Grosso are French Lavender Hybrids commonly cultivated in France for their oil and buds. While the Provence is a favorite with its tasty edible buds, the Grosso is one of the most fragrant of the Lavender varieties.
Plant in full sun and well drained soil. Works great in Xeric gardens, as edging, rock gardens, on hillsides or berms. Lavender works great in containers as long as the soil is extremely well drained.
The Lavender Grosso, also called Lavandin, is the most fragrant of all the lavenders. In fact, the Grosso Lavender is the lavender plant most often used in scenting perfumes and making sachets. Of the French Lavenders, the Grosso is a favorite.
Lavender Hidcote Blue, or Lavender angustifolia, is a free flowering dwarf variety that produces deep purple flower spikes in late spring and summer. Lavender Hidcote Blue is great for a dwarf hedge, edging, or for massing. An English Lavender fave!
The Lavender du Provence is a beautiful addition to any garden path, container, or border plant. The Lavender du Provence is a French Lavender variety that has been popular for centuries because of its strong fragrance and long bloom time.
