Lilium Stargazer, Stargazer Hybrid Oriental Lily is one of the more popular and well known of the Oriental Hybrid Lilies. The Stargazer Lily features an upright form with large star-shaped flowers of pink and red shading with dark red spots and white edging. This Oriental Hybrid Lily, Stargazer matures to a height of approximately 3 feet with a narrow spread and is sweetly fragranced. The Stargazer Lily is perfect for accents, borders, rock gardens, containers and edging projects. Plant the Stargazer Lily in multiples or mass plantings for a greater effect. This Oriental lily is also perfect small gardens or narrow borders and works beautifully along wooded edges or to naturalize areas. The Stargazer Lily is great for cut flowers.
Note: ASPCA reports that the Stargazer Lily is toxic to cats.
Growing the Stargazer lilies is quite easy. Plant the bulbs in fall or spring 4 to 6 inches deep and 8 to 12 inches apart in organic rich soil. Best if planted in the ground or in containers with well draining soil in groupings of 3 or more bulbs. If planting in clay soil that will stay damp during winter, it would be best to plant the bulbs slightly higher as they do not tolerate wet or soggy soil. After blooming, cut the stems down to about 3 inches for the fall & winter duration. This will allow the bulbs to absorb necessary nutrients back in for hibernation.
Greenwood offers the Stargazer Lilium as bare root bulbs that are shipped in fall and spring.
