NEW! Hellebore Blue Lady One of the darkest forms of Hellebores, with deep purple-blue flowers that are simply breathtaking. Blue Lady is of the finest low growing, early flowering plants. The hybrids Hellebores are easy to grow, requiring only shade and some moisture. The outstanding success of the Lady series shows here, selected and isolated rich colors with round and mostly upright flowers on tidy plants. This is a stunning early winter bloomer (January-April) with lustrous dark green foliage. It forms clumps to 9 to 18 inches tall and 2 foot wide. Once established these plants are virtually maintenance free.
When they are not in bloom, their lush shiny evergreen foliage will remain as a year round ground cover. All of the Lady Series Hellebores are extremely deer-resistant.
Hellebores deserve a place in every garden, not only because of their supposed power, but because they bloom for a long time, early in winter, when the weather is cool and most other flowers are still dormant.
They like moist, loamy soil with lime and leaf mold. We like them as ground covers for deciduous shrubs, conifers, or broad-leafed evergreens, and when possible plant them in an elevated spot to admire their nodding flowers.

Introducing, exclusively for Greenwood Nursery Club members and customers,
our NEW STEP–UPS ™ Perennial Plant collection.
What are Step-Ups ™? – Our perennials are cultivated and grown with an accelerated system. They are started in small containers, transplanted to quart containers, and then transplanted again to ONE GALLON SIZE CONTAINERS. This expands the root system, making our plants perform like a two year perennial the very first year. Step-ups ™ perform the first year you plant them.

Plant Maintenance:
The Hellebores enjoy being placed on the edge of woodland conditions. This means planting them in semi-shaded areas with soil rich in organic matter. If you choose to plant in a partially sunny location be sure to provide some shade during the hottest part of the day.
Always dig a hole twice as large as the root ball, breaking up the sides and bottom of the hole with a fork. Before planting add garden compost or any other bulky organic matter to the soil. You will want to plant at the same level as the plant in the pot, firming well as you replace the soil. Most plants will flower the first spring following planting with our Step Up Perennial formula for growing.
Hellebores are low maintenance plants and will need little or no care for many years. A mulch of organic matter each spring will be appreciated and will set the flowers off well. In some gardens leaf spot (dark spots on leaves that may cause them to turn yellow early) can be troublesome but this disease may be controlled by removing all existing leaves in December. Some gardeners like to do this anyway so that the beautiful hellebore flowers can be seen better in the spring.
After flowering, remove flower stalks unless you want the plants to set seed (this does take energy from the plants and should only be allowed on vigorous plants). Ripe seeds can be allowed to grow where they fall or collected and sown fresh in pots. Plants with flowers of an unusual color or form may arise from self-sown seeds.
If your plants start to decline after a number of years you may lift and divide them immediately after flowering. After you have prepared the soil well replant but be aware the plants may take several years to start flowering well again.
Once you have started growing hellebores you are sure to want to increase your collection of these beautiful long lived plants.
