NEW! - Red Latham Raspberries Cold Hardy, Disease Resistant A reliable favorite! Premium-quality berries have glowing pure red color, wonderfully sweet flavor. Firm, luscious fruit processes perfectly for jams and jellies. Self pollinating. 1-year plants. At the supermarket, a handful of raspberries or blackberries can cost $5 or more. But why pay those premium prices when you can harvest baskets of these flavor-filled berries for fresh-eating, jams and desserts right from you own backyard? For easiest harvest and to reduce the risk of fungal disease, provide some types of support for the canes. A simple wire trellis set between posts often adequate. Cut spent canes to the ground after they finish fruiting. Domestic raspberries are either summer-bearing plants, which produce fruit in June, or fall-bearing plants, which produce fruit in the late summer and fall. Summer-bearing plants like the Red Latham, flower and bear fruit on canes that grew the previous year. Once they fruit, those canes won't produce a crop again and should be removed. Summer-bearing raspberries produce little sucker growth. Their long canes need to be supported by a trellis during the winter months to keep them from being damaged by strong winds.
