NEW! Dwarf Crape Myrtle ‘Chickasaw’ - Our customers have been emailing and calling, asking us to offer dwarf crape myrtles. Well, here is the first true miniature Crape Myrtle. Its habit is densely branched, forming a dwarf, to 3 foot, compact mound. Foliage is fine textured, glossy and dark green in summer that turns vibrant orange-red in fall. Pinkish-lavender conical clusters of crinkled, crepe-like flowers appear in mid to late summer, about two weeks after flowers appear on standard hybrid forms of crape myrtle. Flowers persist until frost. Good for small spaces/containers. If planting in clusters or rows plant 18 to 24” apart. Very small crape myrtles are a great source of summer color for Southern gardens. The Chickasaw is used like any flowering shrub in foundation plantings and along fence lines. It will add late season brightness to spring-heavy shrub borders. Use as backgrounder for perennial or mixed borders. This dwarf is sized perfectly for close up appreciation of bark and blossom in smaller city and suburban yards. May be lined up for an informal blooming hedge or planted in groups surrounded by masses of bold groundcover. Plants thrive in full sun in a good heavy loam soil with a pH of 5-6.5. One Gallon Containers.
