Anemone Whirlwind blooms from late summer to fall; there is no flower like it in the border. Anemone Whirlwind displays pure white, semi-double flowers measuring 4 inches across top very tall stems beginning in late summer. In Michigan, Anemone Whirlwind continues to bloom into October, and can usually withstand a light frost. A staple item for the autumn border, Japanese anemones are graceful plants with beautiful, satiny flowers borne on tall stems above a clump of shorter basal foliage. Watching them sway in the breeze brings a feeling of calm and peace to the garden. Since they are a bit late to rise in the spring, they make an ideal cover for the dying foliage of spring bulbs. Anemone likes moisture, and needs winter protection in the most northern states. Anemone Whirlwind is deer resistant and grows to 36 inches tall. Anemone Whirlwind is good for cut flowers.
Garden care: Apply a generous 5 - 7 cm (2 - 3 inc) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Avoid moving the plant since it resents disturbance. Where necessary lift and divide congested colonies in early spring.

Introducing, exclusively for Greenwood Nursery Club members and customers,
our NEW STEP-UPS ™ Perennial Plant collection.
What are Step-Ups ™? - Our perennials are cultivated and grown with an accelerated system. They are started in small containers, transplanted to quart containers, and then transplanted again to one gallon trade size containers. This expands the root system, making our plants perform like a two year perennial the very first year. Step-ups ™ perform the first year you plant them.
