Scottish Tufted Hair Grass - Deschampsia cespitosa Schottland - A great little cool season grass with dense tufted clumps, upright-open, mound-forming, semi-evergreen foliage that grows 1-2 feet tall and flowering stems up to 5' tall.

The flowering stems arch upward and outward from round clumps forming a nice cloud of soft open panicles of individual flowers of silver, green or purple often all in same panicle. It is early blooming from mid-summer to fall with attractive vivid yellow to gold plumes through fall.

Plants form very thick clumps that make a nice addition to the landscape. In addition the fall gold plumes are used in many a households flower arrangements.

Plant usage: This tufted hair grass is an excellent specimen plant. It is best used in group planting in the middle of a border, around a corner or use as an island. It prefers a location in full sun or light shade. For groupings we suggest spacing 24 inches apart. A tolerance for wet soils makes the plant useful for planting near water or water garden.
