Hen and chicks plant, Sempervivum tectorum, is the perfect plant for beginning gardeners. Also, known as Hen-and-chickens, this small spreading succulent is at home being grown in containers as an apartment plant or in the garden as an evergreen ground cover. The Hen and chicks grows close to the ground forming tight rosettes around the main plant. After producing pink or yellow blooms in summer, the rosette dies only to be replaced quickly by another rosette offset.

For best results, plant in a sandy soil mixture.
