Size at time of shipping: Potted, well rooted plants with vigorous growth Sorry we cannot ship any container plants with soil into CA,AZ,OR,HI,and AK. For these states all plants will be taken out of containers, the soil shaken off of the roots, and then roots dipped in water retention gel, then wrapped with moist medium and packaged to insure fresh and live delivery. Sorry for any inconvenience.
This is a creeping, mat forming, evergreen perennial that does well in shady areas. It spreads rapidly by stolons and gets only 6 inches tall and spreads to a width of 24 to 36 inches. In late spring and early summer it will produce dark blue flowers borne on spike-like whorls that reach 6 inches tall. This variety has cream and maroon variegated leaves. It makes an extremely interesting contrast in any garden.
The Ajuga ‘Burgundy Glow’, Ajuga reptans, is a useful ground cover with short spikes of blue flowers. This Ajuga is one of the most popular, forming striking mounds of leaves dappled in green, pink and cream. During the wintertime, Ajuga ‘Burgundy Glow’ develops rich bronze and burgundy tones. It is relatively carefree, however, it can be invasive. The flowers appear in late spring on 6” spikes with a plant spread of 12-18”. Ajuga ‘Burgundy Glow’ will do best in a shaded area but will adapt to morning sun. (The foliage colors will be more vivid with morning sun.) It prefers moist soil with a good drainage but will tolerate moderately dry areas. Do avoid soggy conditions. This Ajuga looks great in rock gardens, as a border plants, in mass plantings and is great for preventing erosion. Butterflies and hummingbirds are defiantly attracted to Ajuga, not to mention being deer resistant and a low allergen. If one is looking for a perennial ground cover to exceed in a hard to grow shady area, Ajuga is the way to go.
