Magnolia virginiana australis
Taller growing than the Sweet Bay Magnolia, the Magnolia virginiana australis grows in the 20 foot tall range with a rounded crown spread whereas in the south, regular Sweetbay Magnolia can grow as tall as 60 feet. The height seems to be the primary difference between the regular Sweetbay and the australis.
The pretty creamy white flowers appear in spring around late April to May with their amazing lemony scent. In warmer climates of the south, this white flowering tree provides evergreen foliage while in the cooler zones of 6 and 5, it is more likely to be semi-evergreen.
Magnolia virginiana var.australis is an excellent landscape tree for city and suburban areas. Place near outdoor sitting areas and porches to take advantage of the late spring fragrant flowers. Also, excellent choice as tree for parks and other urban areas.
Magnolia is grown as a single cane tree in a one gallon container which will be removed for shipping. Orders shipping to CA or AZ will be fully bare rooted before being prepped for shipping.
