Hen and Chicks Plants are the perfect plants for beginning gardeners. Sempervivum tectorum commonly known as Hen-and-chickens, this small spreading succulent is at home being grown in containers as an apartment plant or in the garden as an evergreen ground cover. This fast spreader grows close to the ground forming tight rosettes around the main plant. After producing pink or yellow blooms in summer, the rosette dies only to be replaced quickly by another rosette offset which is how the chicks grow around the hen.
For best planting results for Hen and Chick Plants, plant in a sandy soil mixture.
