The Purple Palace Coral Bells is the most recognized variety of all Heucheras. This award-winning plant features very large, maple-shaped leaves that vary in color. The leaf color may range from deep green to purple with a hint of bronze. The underside of the grape-like leaves is a striking metallic chromatic purple.

Some native varieties of the Palace Purple are from the Rockies while others can be found in lowland southeastern forests. Coral Bells are however, native to North American woodlands. As more Purple Heuchera varieties are discovered the rich shades of this plant become spectacularly vibrant.

The Palace Purple Heuchera does not require much care making it an easy garden plant to grow. It has average watering needs in normal climates. You may need to water it more than once a week in areas with extreme heat. They can withstand full sun in northern clients, with consistent watering. However, you may notice slight to extreme fading depending on the intensity of the sun. In areas with mild winters, heucheras tend to be evergreen.

For optimum performance, plant Coral Bells in rich, neutral or acidic, well-drained soils. During the first planting season, deep and regular watering is required, phasing it off gradually as they become well established.

Purple Palace companion plants include Black Walnut trees because they are resistant to the Juglone toxins emitted from their roots.

The Palace purple makes a wonderful border plant, and performs exceptionally in mass plantings. It can also be planted in a pot, or as a cut flower plant. It attracts butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees, but is deer resistant.

If you would like to plant the palace Purple Coral Bells for their performance, it is best to do so in late summer for a vibrant spring display.
