Achillea Sassy Summer Sunset - Summer Flowering Perennial
This orange yarrow is a must have if you love bright, showy plants. It is one of the tallest achillea varieties in the market with beautiful flowers that have a range of colors like red orange, pink, and yellow. The flower heads start blooming in early summer. They start off as deep shades of orange then later mature to yellow. They have strong and sturdy stems that keep them up throughout the summer flowering season. This yarrow grows to 30-36 inches, with a spread of 30-32 inches.
Yarrow Orange Growth and Care
The sassy summer sunset is an easy perennial for sun to grow, making it a great choice if you are just beginning. It loves the sun and should therefore be grown in full sun, and thrives in average to poor, well-drained soil. I has a rapid growth rate and if grown in rich soils, the plant will grow too tall and floppy. Space plants 36-42 inches apart and water lightly. Fertilizer can be applied once a month. Once well established, the yarrow becomes drought tolerant. One of our favorite newer summer flowering perennials.
You can also stimulate a second bloom in late summer, giving you more time to enjoy the bright colors. Simply cut down the plant by half when flowers fade. The flowers attract bees and butterflies, but the plant is resistant to deer and rabbit.
The Achillea Sassy Summer Sunset is a great addition to cottage, eclectic, and prairie gardens, and will look breathtaking amongst crocosmia lucifer, rudbeckia goldstrum, and Agastache Kudos Yellow, just to name a few. A great match with the Sassy Summer Lemon Yarrow. It is also perfect as a border plant, cut flower, or as a container plant.
