Fast growing evergreen Skyrocket Juniper

A cultivar of the Eastern Red Cedar, the Skyrocket Juniper (Juniperus virginiana "Skyrocket") is a native North American evergreen tree. A column shaped tree, this fast growing evergreen is excellent for privacy hedges especially where space is limited. Growing approximately 20 to 30 feet tall with a 6 to 8 foot spread, this Juniper is smaller than many other evergreen trees.

The female trees of this cedar tree bear small blue berries known to attract and feed birds from fall through winter. Recommended evergreen plant for screens, windbreaks, narrow side years, around parking lots, sound and sight block from highways.

Plant your Skyrocket Juniper in a mostly sunny area. It can tolerate dry, sandy and clay soils, but not wet or poorly drained. Juniper is a host for rust diseases and should be planted at least a few hundred yards from hawthorns, apples or crabapples.

An excellent substitute to Italian Cypress in cold climates. Pair with rose bushesrussian sagecatmintbarberry shrubs and ornamental grasses for striking landscape settings.

The Skyrocket Juniper is a thin columnar Juniper tree that fits into difficult places such as narrow side yards between homes. Probably the most narrow columnar juniper available making it a good choice as trees for small backyardsJuniper Skyrocket is a great evergreen tree for a windbreak plant for both cold and hot climates. The short, compact, silvery blue foliage is evergreen with virtually no change from season to season. An excellent choice for narrow juniper hedges.

Juniper Skyrocket is a very striking, dramatic plant when used in clusters against a large fence or building in foundation plantings, in formal plantings or as hedge plants. It is similar to other Junipers in that it requires a full sun exposure and will tolerate dry and arid soils. Try planting in matched pairs or on four corners of a central courtyard.

Durable and versatile, group the skyrocket junipers to form a colorful screen or garden accent. Its natural habitat is dry and windy with full sun exposure. It looks best in an open site with no shade during the day. This allows the foliage to dry quickly in the morning and helps prevent foliage disease from thinning the canopy. A well-drained soil is essential for good growth. Wet soil rots the roots and causes plant decline.

Growing Instructions for the Skyrocket Juniper: Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering can be reduced once established.
