Description

Jacob Cline Monarda

Attracts hummingbirds to your garden.

Whether you refer to the Jacob Cline as Monarda or Bee Balm, it will lure the hummingbirds to your garden throughout July and August. When the temperatures heat up, the Jacob Cline Bee balm remains cool with the light green foliage and brilliant red tubular flowers. Jean Cline, garden designer and plantsman, found this interesting red flowering perennial growing wild near the Blue Ridge Parkway and named it after his son.

Plant this Monarda in full to part sun in well draining soil to attract butterflies and hummingbirds mid to late summer. The fragrant tubular red flowers of this native wild flower bee balm are excellent for cut flowers and deer resistant. Water regularly after planting (to not let the soil dry out) until the root system has established for a dependable drought tolerant and mildew resistant perennial plant.

Image was taken mid July. Jacob Cline Monarda or Bee Balm grows 3 to 5 feet tall with a spread of up to 2 feet wide.
